The Green Blitz-BILD of the Archetype Sustainable House
The Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) has teamed up with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) to build a new cutting edge sustainable house at the Kortright Centre in Vaughan.
“This is an exciting opportunity for our members to get engaged and involved with a wonderful project that will give back to our community and help build the new greener GTA” said Michael Moldenhauer, 2008 President of BILD.
Born out of a national intregrated design process competition, the Archetype Sustainable House will serve as an education facility for trades, builders, students and the public, with over 150,000 visitors projected annually. The addition of these houses will make the Living City Campus the site of the most comprehensive demonstration centres of conservation, energy efficiency, renewable energy and sustainable technologies in North America.
The two semi-detached units that will be built both serve to show the best green building practices of today, and what could be achieved moving forward. They will allow for exploration into alternative technologies and renewable energy. These homes will be a showcase for the building community of what can be achieved in environmentally conscious new home building of the future.
Energy and water conservation technologies, site management, material sourcing and construction processes are among the issues that will be addressed in these sustainable houses. Each home will be rated under a variety of voluntary new home labeling systems.
The official website for the house is located at www.sustainablehouse.ca
