The potential of laneway suites is an exciting opportunity to address several housing needs within Toronto. Laneway suites are an important step forward in enabling a "missing middle" housing option and present another form of housing that is more affordable. They also present an appropriate means of “gentle density” which can deliver needed housing within existing neighborhoods that is affordable, service-efficient and transit accessible. Introducing more small-scale housing options in established neighbourhoods can keep the neighbourhood-population stable, which in turn provides the customers that local businesses need to thrive.
