Professional renovation projects, contractors recognized

Greater Toronto, February 18, 2011 - A tired bathroom turned spa oasis. An unfinished basement transformed into a space to entertain or exercise. A custom home that spans four levels with seven bedrooms, nine bathrooms, an elevator, a home theatre and an eight-car lift in the garage. These inspired professional renovations were among several award-winning projects revealed by the Building Industry and Land Development Association on the opening day of the National Home Show.

"We had the most submissions ever for our annual Renovation and Custom Building Awards as well as the best overall showcase of projects in years. Whether it's a kitchen, bath, basement, addition or custom home, all of the projects are design-magazine quality," said BILD President and CEO Stephen Dupuis.

Homeowners looking for some renovation inspiration can see before and after photos of all of the entries including the winners by visiting Destination Renovation at the National Home Show, February 18-27, at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place. "We're showcasing 53 renovations of all types, budgets and styles, as well as offering homeowners an opportunity to enjoy a renovation conversation with our professional RenoMark(TM) contractors," Dupuis added.

In the Best Renovation Under $75,000 category, Capoferro Design Build Group has been awarded the trophy for the second consecutive year. The winning project involved updating a tired bathroom so that it now resembles a spa oasis with black porcelain walls, a mahogany vanity and a hidden exhaust system that keeps the mirror fog-free.

W.C. Meek Design and Construction Ltd. is the winner of the Best Renovation $75,000-$150,000 category with an ensuite and basement duo.

PROBUILT by Michael Upshall is the winner in the Best Renovation $150,000-$300,000 category for transforming an unfinished basement into a useable living space with a king-sized bedroom and ensuite, a billiards room, wet bar and media room.

In the Best Renovation $300,000-$500,000 category, Woodcastle Homes Ltd takes the trophy for a massive demolition and four additions that improved the exterior and interior feel and flow of a bungalow.

Northern Edge Construction wins the Best Renovation more than $500,000 category for a project that included a custom addition featuring a residential elevator, glass flooring and hot-water in-floor hearing throughout.

In the very competitive category of Best Custom Home, a stunning four-level, 23-room mansion featuring an elevator, a home theatre and an eight-car lift in the garage by Ambassador Fine Custom Homes Inc. is crowned the best of the best.

The prestigious Renovator of the Year award was bestowed upon Eurodale Developments.
