Toronto's best renovators named for 2009
February 23, 2009, Toronto- The Building Industry and Land Development Association handed out its coveted Renovation Awards Friday, naming Home Editions Limited as the 2009 Renovator of the Year, a member of BILD since 2000.
"Excellent workmanship", and "working with our priorities" said a few of Home Editions Ltd.'s ecstatic homeowners in response to BILD's independent survey of all clients of the finalists. Testimonials highlighted the commitment Home Editions Ltd. makes to detail and trust for their clients.
The prestigious award goes to the company whose professionalism helps raise the standard for all renovators and whose efforts improve the public image of renovators in the Greater Toronto Area. The award reflects how well the renovator performed in meeting the needs and expectations of customers while contributing to the association and the industry.
Home Editions Ltd., also won for best renovation from $150,000-$300,000, for their work on transforming a 1930's home to include a new kitchen and family room extension as well as cosmetic upgrades to the existing main floor with new flooring, a new fireplace mantle and painting.
In other categories, RS Homes/LSI Engineering garnered 3 trophies, including the award for best custom home which grabbed the judges right at the start with a dramatic entrance with custom-stone pattern encircling the main staircase and Jatoba hardwood in a herringbone pattern with detailed handcraft wood border on floor. The features did not end there with a European inspired smoke/poker room, exercise/steam room, wine tasting room, and surround sound throughout.
RS Homes also won for best renovation over $300,000 for meticulous detailing using energy sensitive materials including, removing and replacing all windows with more energy efficiency, adding new stucco and natural stone, and upgrading the roof and eaves troughs.
RS Homes added to their winning streak with the award for best renovation under $75,000 for their transformation of a 30 year-old home facade with new stucco, natural hand cut stone, and metal and copper to create fresh curb appeal. To manage budget, the existing brick was resealed with a cement base then a specialty cut-to-size stone with a reduced thickness was installed.
Best renovation $75,000 - $150,000 was awarded to Inspire Homes who upgraded a modest 1000 sq. ft. home by removing the roof and constructing a full second storey featuring three spacious bedrooms, oversized windows, a bathroom, ample closet space, and a private den.
Homeowners will have an opportunity to view all project display boards submitted in the competition at Destination Renovation, presented by BILD, during the last week of the National Home Show, running until March 1 at the Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place.
The home renovation and custom building awards are sponsored by Reno and Décor magazine.
