BILD Chair reveals Award of Merit, Member of the Year and Hall of Fame induction

Toronto, January 29, 2010 - Three outstanding members of the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) were recognized for their tremendous contribution to the industry and Association during 2009.

With more than 300 guests in attendance at a January 27, 2010 dinner meeting, BILD Chair Leith Moore presided over the presentation of the Chair's Award of Merit, the BILD Member of the Year and an induction into the BILD Hall of Fame.

Phil King, President of the Orlando Group was selected to receive the 2009 Chair's Award of Merit for his efforts in dealing with the very complicated and highly charged Halton development charges issue.

The 2009 BILD Member of the Year was awarded to Bill Christie, Senior Vice-President of Corporate Planning & Taxation, with Tridel. Christie was integral to BILDs successful advocacy efforts to substantially mitigate the impact of the HST on new home buyers in Ontario.

The evening's final highlight came as Dr. Frank Clayton was chosen to join the prestigious group of industry elites by being inducted into the BILD Hall of Fame - the first induction since 2006. The BILD Hall of Fame recognizes the unique historical role which certain individuals have played in making outstanding and lasting contributions to the industry and/or the Association at the local level.

Over the last 40 years, Dr. Clayton's research and analysis has made a significant difference to the home building community. In addition to the consulting assignments undertaken for individual members of BILD, he has helped the industry navigate through many important issues including the GST and HST, rent control, infrastructure financing, housing affordability, the use of RRSPs for down-payments, mortgage and mortgage insurance issues, development charges, land-use demand projections and much, much more.

BILD would like to congratulate all of the evening's award recipients and thank everybody in attendance for their support.

With more than 1,300 members, BILD, formed through the merger of the Greater Toronto Home Builders' Association and Urban Development Institute/Ontario, is the voice of the land development, home building and professional renovation industry in the Greater Toronto Area.  BILD is proudly affiliated with the Ontario and Canadian Home Builders' Associations.
