Tridel and Empire dubbed greenest of 2011 at BILD Awards
TORONTO, May 2 - Tridel and Empire Communities were each selected as Green Builder of the Year in their respective categories by the Building Industry and Land Development Association (BILD) on April 29, 2011.
The Green Builder of the Year award recognizes the low- or high-rise builders who demonstrate outstanding leadership in the implementation of green building practices, be it resource conservation (energy, water, etc.) or any other sustainable building practice or program.
Tridel once again came through as the greenest builder in the GTA's high-rise market, defending its title from the previous year. The builder has now won this award four times in its five-year existence, and will undoubtedly aim to make it three in a row next year by continuing to lead by example when it comes to green building.
In 2010, Tridel was recognized by the Canada Green Building Council (CaGBC) for its industry leadership in marketing and construction of high-rise condominiums. Tridel has built more LEED® projects within the high-rise residential market than any other builder.
Empire Communities walked away with the Low-Rise Green Builder of the Year award for the first time, having always been at the forefront of green building. The builder's recent launch of its revolutionary ECO2 program is now a staple in every Empire home, offering homeowners $8,000 of cost-saving, green features at no charge.
Empire also started a pilot program for solar energy, offering homeowners free installation of rooftop solar panels in some of its GTA communities.
"BILD has made a strategic commitment to promote best practices in sustainable development and green building, and it's great to be able to recognize two companies who clearly get it and walk the walk," said BILD President and CEO Stephen Dupuis.
Throughout the night, BILD's social media team documented the event's proceedings with live updates via Twitter, Facebook, Youtube and BILD's official online blog. For a complete list of recipients, as well as winners from previous years, visit www.bildawards.com.
