Member information on COVID-19: Health and Safety Guidance and OBOA FAQs

January 19, 2021

The provincial government has made available updated health and safety guidelines for the construction industry following last week's announcement of a state of emergency, emergency orders and essential workplace designation for the industry.

While we are providing these updated guidelines to you now, OHBA and BILD staff will conduct a comparison between these and the previous guidelines in order to highlight any significant areas of change. We will communicate those shortly.

Members should expect increased inspections as the government enhances its enforcement of COVID-19 safety measures. Members must make every effort to ensure strict COVID-19 protocols are in place to ensure workers' safety and prevent the spread of the virus on worksites and within operations that support construction activity. Members should pay special attention that adherence to safety protocols, including physical distancing and masking, is maintained by everyone, everywhere on site, including in lunch rooms and break rooms. when working outdoors and when carpooling.

In the member resources during COVID-19 section on the BILD website, you will also find FAQs provided by the Ontario Building Officials Association (OBOA) clarifying some points about construction projects, building permits and inspections during this state of emergency.
